Written in a lyrical and evocative style, the verses beautifully capture the innocence and imagination of youth, employing simple yet profound language that makes the themes universally accessible. The literary context of this work reflects the Victorian eras growing interest in the lives and experiences of children, culminating in a work that not only entertains but also serves as an exploration of the inner world of a child. Stevensons own childhood experiences profoundly informed his writing. Born in 1850 in Edinburgh, Scotland, he was surrounded by a world rich in storytelling and adventure.
