Lectures on Revivals of Religion is a religious book by Charles G. Finney, an American Presbyterian minister who was known as the "Father of Old Revivalism." Finney departs strongly from traditional Calvinist theology by teaching that people have a completely free will to choose salvation. He taught that preachers had vital roles in producing revival. Finneys theory of atonement combines principles from different historical theories, notably the governmental and the moral influence theories, but cant be associated solely to one of them. A major theme of his preaching is the need for what he called conversion. He also focused on the responsibilities that converts had to dedicate themselves to disinterested benevolence and to work to build the kingdom of God on earth.
