Nnedi Okorafor va néixer als Estats Units el 1974. Escriptora de llibres de fantasia, ciència-ficció i ficció especulativa, ha publicat obres tant per a un públic adult com juvenil. Actualment és professora titular a la Universitat de Buffalo, on imparteix els cursos d’Escriptura creativa i de Ciència-ficció. Les seves obres més importants són la trilogia de Binti (2015-2018), Qui tem la mort (2010), Long Juju man (2009), The Shadow speaker (2007) i Zahrah the windseeker (2005) Considerada una de les veus més importants de la ciència-ficció africana i autora del jujuisme africà, ha estat guardonada amb diversos premis: Wole Soyinka Prize for Literatura in Africa (2008), Premi Mundial de fantasia a la millor novel·la (2011), Premi Nebula a la millor novel·la curta (2015), Premi Nebula a la millor novel·la curta (2016) i el Premi Locus al millor llibre juvenil (2018), entre d’altres.
