Edgar Wallace (Greenwich, Anglaterra, 1875 - Beverly Hills, EUA, 1932) va ser un escriptor, periodista i guionista conegut per les seves novel·les d’espies. Fill il·legítim d’actors, va ser adoptat pels Freeman, una família de peixaters. Després de passar els anys de joventut fent feines diverses, es va apuntar a l’exèrcit, on va començar la seva carrera literària com a periodista i escrivint poemes. Autor prolífic, va escriure més de 170 novel·les. Va fer el salt a Hollywood adaptant algunes de les seves novel·les i fins i tot col·laborant en el guió de King Kong. Ara bé, va morir poc després, a l’edat de 56 anys, d’una complicació diabètica.
