fundamental aspects as well as new experimental achievements will be presented in order to stimulate a vivid exchange of information, general views and ideas. Each session is introduced by one or two key-note lectures given by leading-edge researchers followed by invited talks and high level contributions presented by prestigious scientists and engineers. The extended abstracts of these contributions are published in this "Book of Abstracts" giving an overview of the different topics presented and discussed among the workshop participants. We are very proud to confirm the participation of such remarkable key-note lecturers like M. Heyns (IMEC Leuven, Belgium), K. Saraswat (Stanford Univ., USA), E. Kasper (Stuttgart Univ., Germany), L. Pavesi (Trento Univ., Italy), Y. Shiraki (Tokyo City Univ., Japan), B. Tillack (IHPFrankfurt/ Oder & TU-Berlin, Germany), J.P. Conde (INESC-MN / IST Lisbon, Portugal), and F. Finger (FZ-Jülich, Germany). Their key-note lectures are excellent introductions to the 22 invited talks and 20 accepted contributions elaborated by approximately 250 authors and co-authors of around 55 research institutes from 15 different countries.
