Sinopsis de THE NEW GLOBAL LAW

The dislocations of the worldwide economic crisis, the necessity of a system of global justice to address crimes against humanity, and the notorious "democratic deficit" of international institutions highlight the need for an innovative and truly global legal system, one that permits humanity to reorder itself according to acknowledged global needs and evolving consciousness. A new global law will constitute, by itself, a genuine legal order and will not be limited to a handful of moral principles that attempt to guide the conduct of the world's peoples. If the law of nations served the hegemonic interests of Ancient Rome, and international law served those of the European nation-state, then a new global law will contribute to the common good of all humanity and, ideally, to the development of durable world peace. This volume offers a historical-juridical foundation for the development of this new global law.

RAFAEL DOMINGO OSLÉ

(Logroño, 1963) es catedrático de Derecho romano, jurista y académico español, conocido por sus contribuciones en el ámbito de la historia del derecho, el derecho global, la teoría del derecho y la espiritualidad.

Su enfoque interdisciplinar le ha permitido integrar elementos de la ética, la teología, la filosofía y la política en sus análisis jurídicos, y ha enriquecido el debate académico sobre la función del derecho en la sociedad actual. Su obra brilla por su rigor intelectual y su claridad expositiva para comunicar ideas complejas de manera comprensible.

Con una trayectoria académica marcadamente internacional, desde 2011 hasta 2023, trabajó en el Center for the Study of Law and Religion de la Universidad Emory en Atlanta, donde codirigió el programa sobre cristianismo y derecho. Actualmente, dirige la Cátedra Álvaro d'Ors en el Instituto de Cultura y Sociedad de la Universidad de Navarra.

Entre sus publicaciones más relevantes se encuentran: Qué es el derecho global (Premio Rafael Martínez Emperador, 2007), The New Global Law (2010), Roman Law. An Introduction (2018), Law and Religion in a Secular Age (2022), Derecho y Trascendencia (2023) y Espiritualizarse (2024, en coautoría con Gonzalo Rodríguez-Fraile). Ha coeditado con John Witte Jr. The Oxford Handbook of Christianity and Law (2023).
