Belinda Bauer se crio en Inglaterra y en Sudáfrica y actualmente reside en Gales. Antes de escribir su primera novela, por insistencia de su madre, trabajó como periodista y guionista. Su debut, "Blacklands", fue galardonado con la Daga de Oro a la mejor novela del año de la asociación británica de escritores de novela negra CWA y dos años más tarde, en 2013, recibió la Daga de Biblioteca de esa misma asociación por el conjunto de su obra. En 2014, su cuarta novela, "Morir no es tan fácil", fue premiada con el Theakson Old Peculiar, que la cervecera inglesa otorga al mejor thriller del año.
