Samuel Phillips Huntington (1927-2008) se diplomó a la temprana edad de 18 años en Harvard, donde posteriormente ejerció la docencia y se convirtió en profesor emérito. También fue profesor de Ciencias Políticas en el Eaton College y Director del Instituto John M. Olin de Estudios Estratégicos. Colaboró como investigador en el Social Science Research Council y en el Center for International Affairs, de la Universidad de Harvard, y como coordinador de planes de seguridad en el National Security Council.
