Monty Lyman estudió Medicina en las universidades de Oxford, Birmingham e Imperial College de Londres. Ha trabajado en un laboratorio médico internacional y ha ganado varios premios por sus trabajos sobre dermatología y otros temas médicos, además de haber realizado numerosas charlas y conferencias. La extraordinaria vida de la piel fue finalista en la categoria de libro científico de la Royal Society en 2019 y también seleccionado como mejor libro en Radio 4 de la BBC y en el Sunday Times.
