Educado en la tradición disidente o inconformista, es decir, en la religion de aquellos que aceptaron la ruptura con Roma pero no el sometimiento a la nueva Iglesia de Inglaterra fundada desde la monarquia, Blake planeo una obra que le brindara la posibilidad de denunciar la moral instituida, exponer su vision antinomica del mundo, expresar sus ideas sobre el origen de las religiones e incluir un canto revolucionario, la "Cancion de la libertad", muestra de la energia revolucionaria que se desato a finales del siglo XVIII. Uno de los rasgos mas desconcertantes de "El matrimonio del cielo y el infierno" es la variedad de elementos que la componen: ilustraciones y poemas, dialogos y parodias, una teoria de la percepcion, proverbios, una teogonia, un canto politico, manifiestos religiosos y varios descensos a los infiernos. Los poemas que William Blake reunió en el manuscrito que se publica en este volumen constituyen sin duda el mejor resumen posible de su producción literaria. Siguiendo la tradición de nombrar un poemario con el titulo de su texto mas celebre, hemos optado aqui por llamar "Augurios de inocencia" a este importante conjunto de obras blakeanas.

La actividad y energía creadoras de William Blake (1757-1827) están impregnadas de un estado místico, consecuencia del contexto histórico en que vivió. En "Canciones de Inocencia y de Experiencia" reune toda la formulacion simbolica de un universo poetico rico y fructifero en el que se identifican un proceso ritual con la esencia de la poesia. La inocencia y la experiencia representan tanto estados contrarios del alma humana, como situaciones sociales incompatibles en las que confluyen circunstancias materiales y relaciones sociales que implican un cambio de vida y sensibilidad.

Segimon Serrallonga (1930 - 2002), poeta i traductor, va publicar el 1981 la versió catalana d'una de les obres més singulars de la poesia universal, Les Noces del Cel i l'Infern, del poeta londinenc William Blake (1757 - 1827), consideral el rebel per antonomasia de la poesia anglesa. Autor i traductor, tot i la distancia historica i cultural que els separa, comparteixen la inquietud davant el poder, l'art i la religio. I tambe, la preferencia per una expressio alhora precisa i rotunda.

William Blake is the rebel par excellence of English poetry. The personal issues with which he wrestled seemed to him to be also the salient problems of human life. They include questions of the proper place of intellectual control in the personality, the place of impulse, the relations between authority and those it controls (and therefore between elders and children), the relations of the sexes, the folly of moral generalities (one law for the lion and the ox), the poison of jealousy, and the overwhelming importance of forgiveness. Characterized by an extraordinarily imaginative language and a forcefulness and suppleness of rhythms, Blake's poetry possesses a remarkable muscularity and exuberance. Even at its most difficult it excites, while never losing contact with the ordinary realities of life. This volume contains all Blake's poetry with full annotation and a glossary of proper names.
