Akhil Sharma (Delhi, 1971) emigró a Estados Unidos a los ocho años y creció en Edison, Nueva Jersey. Estudió derecho en la Universidad de Princeton –donde fue alumno de notables escritores, como Russell Banks, Toni Morrison, Joyce Carol Oates, Paul Auster o Tony Kushner– y posteriormente en Harvard. Es autor de la novela An Obedient Father, galardonada en 2001 con el PEN/Hemingway y el Whiting Writers’ Award, y ha publicado relatos en The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, The Quarterly, Fiction, y en las antologías The Best American Short Stories y O. Henry Award Winners. La revista Granta seleccionó a Akhil Sharma como una de las nuevas voces más interesantes de la ficción americana actual. Vida de familia, su segundo libro, fue elegido una de las cinco mejores novelas del año por The New York Times.
