Nació en Yorkshire en 1958. En 1996 publicó la novela El diario de Bridget Jones, que relataba un año en la vida de Bridget, un personaje que Fielding inventó para una columna diaria en The Independent. En seguida se convirtió en un bestseller, ganó el British Book Award y fue uno de los fenómenos más importantes de los noventa. En 2001 la novela fue llevada al cine con Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth y Hugh Grant. En 1999 escribió una segunda novela con el mismo personaje: Bridget Jones: sobreviviré. En 2013 publicó Bridget Jones: Loca por él.
