Christine Leunens nació en Hartford, Connecticut. Cuando era adolescente se mudó a París, donde se convirtió en modelo profesional, combinando su trabajo con sus estudios y la escritura. Tiene un Máster en Literatura Inglesa por la Universidad de Harvard y su tesis, sobre Henry James, ganó el premio del Decano por la Universidad a la mejor tesis en humanidades. Con su debut en 1999 con Primordial Soup, Leunens se ganó el aplauso unánime de la crítica y los lectores.
