David Mamet es un dramaturgo, ensayista, novelista, guionista y director de cine estadounidense. Es uno de los autores más destacados del teatro contemporáneo, con obras que ya son auténticos clásicos modernos como Oleanna o Glengarry Glen Ross, por la que recibió el premio Pulitzer. Estudió en el Goddard College de Vermont y en la escuela de teatro Neighborhood Playhouse de Nueva York, y ha impartido clases en la Yale Drama School y en la Universidad de Nueva York. Paralelamente a sus obras literarias ha desarrollado una prolífica carrera como ensayista sobre temas de interpretación, cine y teatro y cuestiones sociales como la xenofobia, el erotismo, la dictadura de lo políticamente correcto o la ideología de género. También ha recibido nominaciones a los premios Tony por sus obras Glengarry Glen Ross y Speed the Plough. Sus guiones cinematográficos, entre los que se incluyen El veredicto, Los intocables de Eliot Ness o Hannibal, han sido dos veces candidatos al Oscar.
