Whether a geological process, a settlement pattern, or a dancer’s hand position, great care was used to design illustrations that support the text. Overall, the book is unique within its genre. Perhaps because it didn’t begin as a book, but rather as notes and sketches from field work, it evolved gradually into its present, necessarily unique form.
