Escrito por Axel Scheffler
Axel Scheffler nació en Hamburgo (Alemania) en 1957, donde estudió Historia del Arte. Obtuvo algunos premios de dibujo publicitario a finales de los 70 y principios de los 80. Se instaló en Inglaterra y allí finalizó sus estudios de diseño gráfico. Sus dibujos, ilustraciones y pinturas están casi siempre representados por animales que parecen personas o por personas caricaturizadas. Cuando era pequeño quería ser biólogo, porque eso estaba contento, al menos, de poder representar animales a través de su arte. Compaginó sus ilustraciones para libros de literatura infantil y juvenil con su labor como dibujante en revistas, periódicos o en publicidad. Especialmente exitoso ha sido su trabajo con la autora Julia Donalson, cuyo trabajo conjunto se vio reconocido con el premio británico Smarties.
