Jan Kozielewski (Jan Karski), Lodz, Polònia, 1914 - Washington D.C., 2000. Per aconseguir dedicar-se a la carrera diplomàtica, que des de ben jove havia sigut la seva autèntica vocació, va estudiar a la Universitat Jean Casimir, de Lvóv, i posteriorment es va sotmetre al procés de formació i selecció del ministeri d’Afers Estrangers. A causa dels seus dots extraordinaris va ser escollit com a emissari de confiança del govern polonès. Acabada la guerra, va emigrar primer al Canadà i més tard a Washington, on va obtenir un doctorat a Georgetown el 1952 i hi va impartir classes durant quaranta anys.
