Mark Lawrence nació en 1966 en Illinois, Estados Unidos, pero al año siguiente se mudó al Reino Unido y en la actualidad reside en Bristol. Graduado en Física y con un doctorado en Matemáticas, durante años se dedicó a la investigación científica en el campo de la inteligencia artificial, para lo que contaba con autorización de alto secreto de los gobiernos estadounidense y británico. Con su primera novela, Príncipe de espinas (Nocturna, 2026), inició la trilogía de El imperio desgarrado, que ganó el premio David Gemmell Legend, resultó finalista a otros como el de Mejor Novela Fantástica en Goodreads y al Prix Imaginales, se tradujo a más de una veintena de idiomas y Paramount compró sus derechos cinematográficos. Autor también de libros como Hermana roja, ha vendido más de dos millones de ejemplares en todo el mundo.
