Anne Enright nació en Dublín, donde todavía reside, y estudió Literatura Inglesa y Filosofía en el Trinity College. Comenzó a escribir cuentos a los veinte años, aunque durante un tiempo se dedicó a la producción televisiva. En 1993 abandonó la televisión para centrarse por completo en la literatura. Ha escrito dos libros de cuentos, un ensayo y cinco novelas, entre las que se incluye El encuentro, por la que obtuvo el Premio Man Booker, el Irish Fiction Award y el Irish Novel of the Year. A lo largo de su carrera ha recibido además galardones como el Premio Costa Book, la Medalla Andrew Carnegie a la Excelencia en Ficción, el Premio Bord Gáis Energy al mejor libro irlandés de la década o el Premio Whitbread de novela, entre otros. En 2015 fue la primera escritora de su país en recibir el Laureate for Irish Fiction, una distinción oficial que reconoce la excelencia de un autor de ficción.
