Tan Twan Eng (Penang, 1972) ha vivido en muchos lugares de Malasia debido a los traslados profesionales de su padre. Estudió Derecho en Londres y trabajó como abogado en un reputado bufete de abogados de Kuala Lumpur. Su obsesión por la lectura comenzó de niño con los libros de Enid Blyton, y siguió bajo pupitres y a la hora de comer, indiscriminadamente, “absorbiendo basura de todo género”, especialmente la novela rosa de Jackie Collins, Sydney Sheldon o Judith Krantz. Su primera novela, El don de la lluvia (Berenice, 2008), fue acogida en todo el mundo de forma espectacular, hasta su nominación para el prestigioso Man Broker Prize de 2008 (su editorial inglesa ha sido el sello más joven de la historia en tener un candidato a este premio). Con El jardín de las brumas ha llegado de nuevo a ser finalista absoluto de este prestigioso premio, que se concede al mejor libro del año en lengua inglesa. Actualmente, tras una temporada en Sudáfrica, Tan Twan Eng reside en Malasia.
