Juan Ramón Alonso (Madrid, 1951) estudió pintura en la Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Madrid) donde obtuvo el título de Profesor de Dibujo. Su actividad principal fue la enseñanza, hasta que en 1980 publica su primer libro como ilustrador.
Sus dibujos se han editado en más de trescientos libros infantiles y juveniles. También es portadista en colecciones para adultos y ha colaborado en prensa con varias revistas y diarios durante más de 20 años, así como en diversas editoriales extranjeras. Habitualmente utiliza en su trabajo acuarela y lápices de color, pero otras veces recurre al tratamiento por ordenador de sus dibujos.
