The story is about a girl named - not surprisingly - Jane Eyre, and its a bildungsroman, a coming-of-age story that follows Jane from childhood through motherhood. Many elements of Janes life are similar to events in Charlotte Brontës life. Because the work features a strong-willed and intelligent woman, its often considered to be an early feminist text.
