POLÌTICAS Y PR·CTICAS DE PUBLICACIÛN EN CIRUGÌA ORAL Y MAXILOFACIAL: ESTUDIO COMPARATIVO

La aplicación de métodos bibliométricos para la evaluación de laciencia, más concretamente en las disciplinas del ámbito de las Ciencias de laSalud está cada vez más difundido. No ocurre lo mismo con la Cirugía Oral yMaxilofacial, especialidad médico-quirúrgica que se ocupa de la prevención,estudio, diagnóstico, tratamiento y rehabilitación de la patología de la boca,cara y territorio craneofacial, así como de los órganos y estructurascervicales relacionadas directa o indirectamente con los mismos. Los estudiosbibliométricos sobre una especialidad, a través de las publicacionescientíficas, permiten extraer información cuantitativa y cualitativa sobre lamisma, con el fin de determinar patrones de comportamiento y tendencias en elconsumo, elaboración y difusión de la información científica. Comprobada laescasez de investigaciones a nivel mundial y corroborando que al inicio denuestro estudio no existían estudios bibliométricos sobre la Cirugía Oral yMaxilofacial de ningún país situado entre los 20 primeros productorescientíficos del mundo, se planificó y desarrolló el presente estudio, con elfin de aportar los datos pertinentes que hagan posible dilucidar laparticipación de autores españoles en la literatura científica internacional dela Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial durante el periodo de estudio 2005-2014.
The application of bibliometric methods for theevaluation of science, specifically in the disciplines of the field of healthsciences is increasingly widespread. Not so with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,medical-surgical specialty that deals with prevention, research, diagnosis,treatment and re- habilitation of the pathology of the mouth, face andcraniofacial territory and organs and cervical structures related directly orindirectly related thereto. Bibliometric studies on a specialty, throughscientific publications, allow to extract quantitative and qualitativeinformation on the same, in order to determine behavior patterns and trends inconsumption, production and dissemination of scientific information. Provenshortage of global research and corroborating that at the beginning of ourstudy there were no bibliometric studies of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery ofany country situated between the top 20 scientific producers in the world, wasplanned and developed the present study, in order to provide relevant data tomake it possible to elucidate the participation of Spanish authors ininternational scientific literature of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery duringthe study period 2005-2014.
