Sinopsis de RIGHT YOU ARE (IF YOU THINK SO)

Right You Are (If You Think So) by Luigi Pirandello is a brilliantly crafted theatrical work that explores the elusive nature of truth and the shifting boundaries between perception and reality. First performed in the early 20th century, this thought-provoking play stands as one of Pirandellos most incisive examinations of human psychology and social illusion.
Set in a small provincial town, the story unfolds when a mysterious family arrives and quickly becomes the subject of intense curiosity. The townspeople are consumed by speculation about the relationship between a man, his wife, and his mother-in-law. Each offers a conflicting version of the truth, and both narratives appear equally convincing. As gossip escalates into obsession, the communitys need to uncover "what really happened" reveals more about their own insecurities and prejudices than about the newcomers themselves.
Pirandello masterfully constructs a drama built not on physical action but on dialogue, doubt, and philosophical tension. The play challenges the assumption that there is a single, objective truth. Instead, it suggests that reality is shaped by perspective—constructed through individual interpretation rather than fixed facts. What one character believes wholeheartedly may be dismissed by another, and certainty becomes increasingly fragile.
With sharp wit and subtle irony, Pirandello exposes the human desire for definitive answers and the discomfort that ambiguity creates. The townspeoples relentless investigation transforms into a reflection of societys tendency to impose its own narratives upon others. Through this lens, the play becomes both a psychological study and a social critique.
At its core, Right You Are (If You Think So) invites audiences to question their own assumptions. Is truth absolute, or does it exist only through perception? Can we ever fully understand another persons reality? Pirandello does not provide easy resolutions; instead, he leaves readers and viewers suspended in uncertainty, encouraging them to confront the complexity of human experience.
A landmark of modern theatre, this intellectually daring work remains as relevant today as when it first appeared. Blending philosophical inquiry with dramatic tension, Right You Are (If You Think So) stands as a timeless exploration of identity, belief, and the fragile foundations upon which our understanding of the world is built.

Luigi Pirandello
