George Washington (1732-1799) fue agrimensor en Virginia y comandante de la milicia colonial en 1752. Participó en las guerras francesa e india antes de resignar su cargo de comandante. Fue elegido miembro de la asamblea de Virginia en 1758 y delegado del Primer Congreso Continental hasta 1774. El Congreso le nombró comandante en jefe del ejército continental en 1775. Asistió a la Convención Federal, de la que fue elegido presidente por unanimidad. Fue también el primer presidente de los Estados Unidos.
