Josephine Tey
(Inverness, 1896-Londres, 1952), es el seudónimo principal de Elizabeth Mackintosh, célebre escritora y dramaturga escocesa. Pese a pertenecer cronológicamente a la llamada Edad de Oro de las novelas británicas de intriga, las narraciones y los personajes de Tey se alejan de los estereotipos que comparten los títulos clásicos de suspense. En 1929, su novela The man in the Queue cosechó un éxito notable e introdujo a su personaje más famoso, el inspector Alan Grant, de Scotland Yard, que protagonizaría otras cinco novelas, entre las cuales cabe destacar La hija del tiempo (1951; RBA, 2012) y Un chelín para velas (1936; Hoja de Lata, 2019). Al margen de la serie de Alan Grant, otras de sus obras más celebradas son La señorita Pym dispone (1946; Hoja de Lata, 2015), El caso de Betty Kane (1948; Hoja de Lata, 2017) y Patrick ha vuelto. Todas ellas ponen de manifiesto la gran capacidad de análisis psicológico de la autora y su propensión por las tramas abiertas de final sorprendente. A su muerte, Josephine Tey legó toda su obra a la National Trust for Scotland.
