Sally Rooney is an Irish author and screenwriter who identifies herself as a Marxist. She has released three novels, namely, Conversations with Friends (2017), Normal People (2018), and Beautiful World, Where Are You? (2021). Rooney received her bachelors degree in English from Trinity College Dublin, where she was a scholar in 2011. She began but did not complete a masters degree in politics at the same university. Instead, she pursued a degree in American literature, and she finished with an MA in 2013. When she was a student at Trinity College Dublin, she participated in university debates and eventually rose to the top at the European Universities Debating Championships in 2013. In November 2017, Rooney was appointed as the editor of the Irish literary magazine The Stinging Fly. She was the editor-in-chief for the magazines first two issues in 2018 before passing over the reins to Danny Denton. She continues to work as a contributing editor for the publication.
