Julián Casanova es Catedrático de Historia Contemporánea en la Universidad de Zaragoza y Profesor Visitante en la Central European University de Budapest/Viena. En 2018-19 fue miembro del Institute for Advanced Study de Princeton y en 2022-23 Distinguished Research Fellow en el Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia de la Universidad de Michigan. Casanova es uno de los principales historiadores españoles del siglo XX y reconocido internacionalmente por sus estudios sobre la Guerra Civil española. Sus numerosos libros han sido publicados tanto en español como en inglés y algunos han sido traducidos a otros idiomas cono el árabe o turco. En abril de 2021 el Gobierno de Aragón le concedió el «Premio de las Letras Aragonesas». Su último libro es Franco, Crítica, Barcelona, 2025. Fue asesor histórico de la película de Alejandro Amenábar “Mientras dure la guerra” (2019). Ha dirigido 36 tesis doctorales.
