Sinopsis de EXIT GHOST
Philip Roth’s 28th book is, it seems, the final novel in the Zuckerman series, which began in 1979 with The Ghostwriter . A 71-year-old Nathan Zuckerman returns to New York after more than a decade in rural New England, ostensibly to see a doctor about a prostate condition that has left him incontinent and probably impotent. But Zuckerman being Zuckerman and Roth being Roth, the plot is much complicated than it at first appears. Within a few days of arriving in New York, Zuckerman accidentally encounters Amy Bellette, the woman who was once the muse/wife of his beloved idol, writer S.I. Lonoff; he also meets a young novelist and promptly begins fantasizing about the writer’s young and beautiful wife. There’s also a subplot about a would-be Lonoff biographer, who enrages Zuckerman with his brashness and ambition, two qualities a faithful Roth reader can’t help ascribing to the young, sycophantic Zuckerman himself. As usual, Roth’s voice is wise and full of rueful wit, but the plot is contrived (the accidental meeting with Amy, for example, is particularly unbelievable) and the tone hovers dangerously close to pathetic. In the Rothian pantheon, this one lives closer to The Dying Animal than Everyman . (Oct.)

Philip Roth (1933-2018) obtuvo el Premio Pulitzer en 1997 por Pastoral Americana. En 1998 recibió la Medalla Nacional de las Artes en la Casa Blanca y, en 2002, el máximo galardón de la Academia Americana de las Artes y Letras, la Medalla de Oro de Narrativa, previamente otorgada a John Dos Passos, William Faulkner y Saul Bellow, entre otros. Ha sido galardonado en dos ocasiones con el National Book Award, el PEN/Faulkner Award y el National Book Critics Circle Award.
En 2005, La conjura contra América recibió el premio de la Society of American Historians, concedido a «su destacada novela histórica en 2003-2004 sobre un tema histórico norteamericano» y el Premio W.H. Smith por el mejor libro del año, convirtiendo a Roth en el primer escritor en ganarlo dos veces en los cuarenta y seis años de historia del premio.
En 2005, Roth se convirtió en el tercer escritor norteamericano vivo cuya obra publicó la Library of America en una edición completa y definitiva. En 2011 recibió la National Humanities Medal en la Casa Blanca, y fue nombrado posteriormente el cuarto ganador del Man Booker International Prize. En 2012 ganó el máximo galardón de España, el Premio Príncipe de Asturias, y en 2013 ganó el más prestigioso de Francia, el Comandante de la Legión de Honor.
