Joel Franz Rosell nació en Cruces, Cuba. Escritor, profesor, periodista, ilustrador e investigador literario, ha vivido en Brasil, Dinamarca, Argentina y Francia, donde se instala definitivamente en 2004. Ha publicado una treintena de libros para niños y jóvenes en Argentina, Brasil, China, Colombia, Corea, Cuba, España, Francia, Italia, Japón, México y Portugal. Ha publicado más de 200 artículos y ensayos, en su mayoría sobre literatura infantil y cultura cubana, en diarios y revistas de Europa, las Américas y Asia. Entre otros reconocimientos literarios ha obtenido la distinción The White Ravens de la Biblioteca Internacional de la Juventud (Alemania, 1996 y 2007), el Premio de la Ciudad de Cherburgo (Francia, 2001) y el Premio Avelino Hernández de Novela Juvenil (España, 2016).
