Colin Thubron (Londres, 1939). Educado en Eton College, trabajó brevemente como editor y en proyectos de televisión antes de convertirse en escritor. Autor de libros de viaje y novelista, se dio a conocer en 1968 con el libro de viaje Mirror to Damascus. Su obra ha sido ampliamente traducida al español. Entre sus libros de viajes, cabe destacar El corazón perdido de Asia (1998), En Siberia (2000), Entre rusos (2002) o Entre árabes (20002), publicados por Ediciones Península. Entre sus novelas destacan Hacia la última ciudad (El Aleph, 2003) y Sophia, ganadora del PEN/Macmillan Silver Pen Award.
