This exhibition is organised in conjunction with the restoration of the great Crucifixion in El Escorial, which is currently being undertaken at the Prado as part of a collaborative institutional agreement between the Museum and Patrimonio Nacional. The catalogue, by Lorne Campbell, curator of the National Gallery in London and curator of the exhibition, opens with two of his essays, the first one around the life and work of Van der Weyden and the second one about the Flemish painter and his relationship with Spain. They are followed by a text by Carmen García-Frías Checa, curator at Patrimonio Nacional, about the recovery and restoration process of The Crucifixion. The works of the exhibition are reproduced along with some infrared reflectography details of the pictures. The catalogue includes Bibliography and more than one hundred images of works by the great Flemish artist.
