(1944-2001) Su nombre completo era Winfried Georg Sebald. Con 26 años llegó a Norwich (Inglaterra) para dar clases en la Universidad de East Anglia y dónde, desde 1987, ocupó la cátedra de literatura europea. Fue fundador del prestigioso British Centre for Literary Translation, del que fue director hasta 1994. Escritor tardío, su primera novela Vértigo (1990), la escribió cuando contaba 46 años, fijó las formas y los territorios de una narrativa que en sólo diez años y otros tres libros, Los emigrados (1996), Los anillos de Saturno (2000) y Austerlitz (2002), le convirtieron en autor de culto.
