John Bellairs (1938-1991) fue un novelista norteamericano que se enfocó principalmente en el género gótico. Su trabajo más conocido es el clásico infantil La casa con un reloj en sus paredes, publicado por vez primera en 1973, y la innovadora novela de fantasía The Face in the Frost, de 1969. Bellairs se graduó en la Universidad de Notre Dame y obtuvo una maestría en literatura inglesa por la Universidad de Chicago. Combinó su trabajo como autor y académico en la década de los sesenta, y durante ese periodo pasó un año en el Shimer College. Después de 1971 se dedicó de tiempo completo a su labor de escritor.
