Leila Slimani nace en Rabat en 1981, de padre marroquí y madre franco-argelina. Al terminar su formación en el liceo francés de Rabat, se marcha a París para matricularse en el Instituto de Estudios Políticos y, posteriormente, en la Escuela Superior de Comercio donde se especializa en medios de comunicación. Después de ejercer varios años como periodista en L’Express y Jeune Afrique, decide dedicarse por completo a la literatura. Con su primera novela, «En el jardín del ogro» (2014), donde aborda la adicción sexual femenina, recibe el reconocimiento unánime de la crítica. «Canción dulce», su segunda novela, consolida la carrera literaria de Slimani al obtener el Premio Goncourt 2016. En 2017 se edita en Francia su comprometido ensayo «Sexo y mentiras». Actualmente es la representante francesa en el Consejo de la Francofonía.
