Films in Health Sciences Education combines the study of medical themes and film analysis. Subjects related to health care of interest to doctors, nurses, pharmacists and psychologists among others, are presented alongside an analysis of film language. The ten films analysed in the book all deal with a disease or health problem that is relevant to the plot; they cover a wide range of pathologies and include patients of all ages. Each chapter is structured in the following way: - A technical and artistic summary which briefly describes the plot of the film and how the main medical condition fits in with it. - A list of the subjects which are likely to be of interest to teachers, professionals and students involved in health sciences from an academic point of view. - The main health problems which are relevant to the plot of the film as well as those which are merely mentioned. - A list of the health-care professionals who are likely to be interested in the health topics covered by the film. - A scenario which explains the plot of the film. - A transcript of the dialogue of a few selected sequences along with an explanation of the context, the exact timing and a frame from the film. - A glossary of the most important or interesting medical vocabulary used in the film. - An explanation of some of the filming techniques which are employed in the film. - Activities and academic tasks which can be carried out in relation to each film. Films in Health Sciences Education is addressed mainly to health-science teachers, but also caters for health professionals and can be used as a course book for health-science students. The objective of this book is to help health professionals and students enjoy, analyse, understand and learn about health sciences through film.
