Dima vuelve al pueblo de sus abuelos a pasar las vacaciones: «otro verano más en el pueblo». Un día, en el bosque junto al río, encuentra enterrada una extraña caja metálica. Dentro, guardada con mucho cuidado, descubre una carta que contiene una pista para encontrar la siguiente caja y así poder reconstruir una historia de amor y de odio en tiempos convulsos, en tiempos de guerra, cuando la gente del pueblo vivía enfrentada.
