Fill d’un funcionari del govern anglès a Egipte, C. S. Forester —pseudònim de Cecil Louis Troughton Smith— va ser un escriptor britànic prolífic, que també va treballar com a guionista de Hollywood. Algunes de les seves obres van ser portades al cinema amb molt d’èxit, com és el cas de La reina d’Àfrica, que va dirigir John Huston el 1951, amb Katherine Hepburn i Humphrey Bogart com a protagonistes, el qual va guanyar un Òscar al millor actor.
