Paolo Cognetti (Milán, 1978) ha trabajado como documentalista, y ha sido durante mucho tiempo un enamorado de Norteamérica, especialmente de Nueva York; allí pasó temporadas antes de irse a vivir, a los treinta años, a un pueblo de los Alpes italianos. Ahora reside entre su ciudad natal y la montaña, desde donde escribe.

Ha publicado libros de cuentos y ensayos sobre escritura. Al español se han traducido su diario de la vida montañesa, El muchacho silvestre, la guía Nueva York es una ventana sin cortinas, la crónica de su viaje por el Himalaya Sin llegar nunca a la cumbre (Random House, 2019) y las novelas Las ocho montañas (Random House, 2018) y La felicidad del lobo (Random House, 2021). Las ocho montañas ha sido publicada con gran éxito en cuarenta países, y ha recibido los premios Strega y Strega Giovani, el Prix Medicis Étranger y el English PEN Translates Award. En 2022, su adaptación cinematográfica fue merecedora del premio del jurado en el festival de Cannes y de cuatro David di Donatello, incluido el de mejor película.
